Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a Long-term Standard Visitor Visa UK?

The processing time for a Long-term Standard Visitor Visa application typically takes around 3 to 6 weeks from the date of your biometric appointment. However, it may vary depending on the time of year and your personal circumstances. If you intend to enter the UK frequently for family visits, tourism, or business, and meet the eligibility requirements for the duration of your visa, applying early is highly recommended. A UK visit visa of this type requires strong documentation and a clear purpose for repeated visits.

How long can I visit the UK with a Long-Term Visitor Visa application?

If you apply for a long-term visitor visa, you may receive a visa valid for 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years. However, the duration of the visa does not mean you can stay in the UK continuously. Each UK visit visa typically allows a maximum stay of 6 months per visit. Applicants must demonstrate they are a genuine visitor and do not intend to live in the UK through repeated or continuous stays.

Where can I apply for a UK Visa in Jakarta?

To apply for a UK Visa and Immigration entry clearance in Jakarta, you must schedule an appointment at a visa application centre. In Indonesia, this is managed through the official UK partner center in Jakarta. During your appointment, you’ll submit biometrics and required documents. Be prepared to pay the applicable application fee, which varies depending on the type of Visit to the UK visa you are applying for.

Can I extend my stay in the UK?

The UK Visitor Visa does not typically allow extensions beyond the permitted period. If you hold a 5 or 10 years multiple-entry visa, you can re-enter the UK multiple times but still must leave after each 6-month stay. You must demonstrate that you do not plan to stay in the UK for extended periods and that you genuinely intend to leave the UK after each visit. For guidance on long-term travel or migration alternatives, LMI Consultancy can assist you with compliant strategies.

Can I get a refund if my tourist visa is denied?

If your UK visitor visa application is refused because you cannot meet the eligibility requirements, unfortunately, you are not entitled to a refund of the application fee. The visa fee covers the cost of processing and decision-making, regardless of the outcome. It is also not refundable if you are denied entry or choose not to travel to the UK at the end. To increase your chances of approval, LMI Consultancy can support you with documentation and eligibility assessments before applying.

Can I switch to a different visit visa category while in the UK?

No, the UK does not permit you to switch to a different visa category from within the country while on a Standard Visitor Visa. If you want to live in the UK or change your immigration path, you must leave and apply for the appropriate visa type from outside the UK. The visitor visa is only for those who are genuine visitors intending to return to their home country and not for those planning to visit the UK regularly to reside or work.

Can I work or study on Long-Term Visitor Visa type?

The Long-Term Visitor Visa does not allow you to work in the UK or enrol in long-term studies. It is a visa that allows for tourism, short business activities, and visiting friends or family. If you’re looking to visit the UK for professional or academic reasons, you’ll need to apply under the appropriate work or student visa categories.

How can I track my visa application status?

Once you apply for a standard visitor visa, you will receive a reference number that allows you to track your application status online. Whether you’re applying for a shorter visa, long-term visitor visa, or transit visa, updates will typically be sent via email or accessible via the visa centre’s tracking system. If you’re working with LMI Consultancy, they can assist in monitoring progress and advising on next steps once a decision has been made.
