Indonesia has officially expanded its Visa-Free Visit (Bebas Visa Kunjungan/BVK) programme by adding six new countries and territories, making it easier for eligible foreign nationals to visit Indonesia for tourism and other permitted short-term activities.
The new policy took effect on 9 July 2026 following the issuance of Minister of Immigration and Corrections Regulation No. 10 of 2026, signed by Minister Agus Andrianto. The regulation replaces Ministerial Regulation No. 10 of 2025 and reflects Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen tourism, investment, and international cooperation while maintaining a selective immigration policy.
Indonesia Adds Six New Countries to Visa-Free Entry List
Under the latest regulation, passport holders from the following countries and territory are now eligible for Indonesia’s Visa-Free Visit facility:
- Republic of Türkiye
- Federative Republic of Brazil
- Republic of Peru
- Republic of Kazakhstan
- Macau Special Administrative Region (People’s Republic of China)
- Republic of Belarus
The expansion is expected to increase international visitor arrivals while supporting broader economic objectives, including trade, foreign investment, education, and diplomatic cooperation.
At the same time, Ministerial Regulation No. 10 of 2025 has been officially revoked and replaced by the new regulation.
Visa-Free Access Continues to Follow Indonesia’s Selective Immigration Policy
According to Minister Agus Andrianto, the expansion was based on a comprehensive evaluation rather than simply increasing visitor numbers.
The Government assessed each country using the criteria set out in Presidential Regulation No. 95 of 2024 on Visa-Free Visits, including:
- Reciprocity between Indonesia and partner countries
- National security considerations
- Tourism potential
- Economic and investment opportunities
- Other strategic national interests
The Minister emphasised that Indonesia does not grant visa-free access automatically, with every decision intended to balance economic benefits alongside immigration security.
Kazakhstan Highlights Growing Investment Cooperation
The inclusion of Kazakhstan has been welcomed as a milestone in bilateral relations.
Indonesia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Fadjroel Rachman, noted that Kazakhstan had already granted visa-free entry to Indonesian citizens. He expects reciprocal visa-free travel to strengthen tourism, trade, investment, and educational exchanges between the two countries.
According to the Ambassador, existing cooperation agreements could help increase bilateral trade to approximately USD 2 billion within the next three to five years.
Travelling to Indonesia from Countries That Are Not Visa-Free
Foreign nationals whose countries are not included in Indonesia’s Visa-Free Visit programme can still enter Indonesia through several alternative immigration pathways.
The appropriate visa depends on the duration and purpose of the visit.
Visa on Arrival (VoA)
Indonesia currently offers a Visa on Arrival (VoA) to citizens of 97 eligible countries.
The Visa on Arrival provides:
- Initial stay of 30 days
- One extension of 30 additional days
- Maximum stay of 60 days
Travellers may obtain the visa upon arrival at designated immigration checkpoints or apply before departure through Indonesia’s Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) system.
The VoA is commonly used for:
- Tourism
- Visiting family or friends
- Limited business meetings
- Government visits
- Short recreational stays

Single Entry Visit Visa
Travellers planning a longer stay should consider applying for a Single Entry Visit Visa before travelling.
This visa offers:
- Initial stay of 60 days
- Extendable twice
- Maximum stay of up to 180 days
The Single Entry Visa is commonly used for:
- Extended tourism
- Family visits
- Cultural activities
- Business discussions
- Market research
- Other permitted non-employment activities
Because extensions can be completed within Indonesia, this visa offers considerably greater flexibility for visitors intending to remain in the country for several months.
