Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to process a UK visit visa application from Indonesia?

The processing time for a UK visit visa from Indonesia typically takes around 15 working days after your biometric appointment at the visa application centre. However, it may vary depending on the time of year, individual circumstances, or if additional documents are required. It’s advisable to apply at least 3–6 weeks before your intended travel date.

How do I apply for a long-term standard visitor visa to the UK, and what is the online application process like?

To apply for a long-term standard visitor visa, which can be valid for 2, 5, or 10 years, you need to start by completing the online application through the official UK government website. Once submitted, you’ll schedule a biometric appointment at a UK visa application centre in Indonesia.

During the application process, you’ll also need to provide supporting documents such as proof of purpose, financial stability, and intent to return. Note that a long-term visa does not allow extended stays per visit—it only extends the validity period for multiple entries.

Do I need a visa to visit the UK, and what are the eligibility requirements for a UK visit visa?

Yes, Indonesian passport holders need a visa to visit the UK. To obtain a visit visa, you must meet the eligibility requirements, which include proving that:

  • You will leave the UK at the end of your visit
  • You can support yourself financially during your stay
  • You can pay for your return or onward journey
  • You’re not planning to live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits

Make sure all documents are accurate and reflect a genuine purpose of travel.  Make sure to check the latest requirements or consult LMI Consultancy to determine your eligibility.

Will I get my visa fee refunded if my application is refused?

No, unfortunately, if you apply for a UK visa and your application is refused, you will not receive a refund of the application fee. The UK government retains the fee for processing, regardless of the outcome. This applies to all types of visa in the UK, including the visa you applied for, whether it’s a tourist, business, or family visa.

This is why many applicants choose to work with experienced consultants like LMI Consultancy, to ensure their application meets the requirements from the start.

Do I need a visa if I’m only transiting through the UK?

It depends. Some nationalities, including Indonesian passport holders, may require a Visa Transit even if they don’t plan to leave the UK airport. You may need a Visit Visa if your transit involves passing through the UK border, collecting baggage, or staying overnight.

However, in some cases, travellers can transit without a visa if they meet specific conditions, such as having a valid visa for the next destination and not intending to leave the UK airport. If you are planning to stay in the UK longer than the transit period, it’s best to apply for a standard visitor visa. Check the latest requirements or consult LMI Consultancy to determine your eligibility.
