Frequently Asked Questions

Can I study in South Korea using a tourist visa?

No, you cannot study in the Republic of Korea using a tourist visa. If you plan to enrol in a formal education program, you must apply for a Visa for Study, which is a type of long-term visa specifically designated for educational purposes.

Tourist visas are only intended for short stays such as sightseeing or visiting family and friends, and they do not grant permission to attend full-time classes. Attempting to study on a tourist visa can lead to legal complications or deportation.

To apply for the correct type of visa, you must submit your application through the Korean Embassy or Consulate General in your country of residence or through the Korea visa portal.

Always consult official visa information sources to ensure your application complies with Korean immigration regulations.

Are there specific visa policies for certain countries to travel to South Korea?

Yes, the Republic of Korea has different visa issuance policies depending on the traveller’s nationality. Citizens of several countries are permitted to enter South Korea without a visa for short stays, typically up to 90 days.

However, travellers from countries not included in Korea’s visa exemption list must have a visa issued prior to arrival. The length of stay, purpose of visit, and specific requirements vary depending on bilateral agreements between South Korea and the traveller’s home country.

For accurate and up-to-date details, it is advisable to check with the Korean embassy or consulate general in your location or refer to the Korea visa portal.

Does Korea have Visa Waiver program?

Yes, the South Korean government operates a Visa Waiver Program for citizens of certain countries, allowing them to enter Korea without a visa for a limited period, typically up to 90 days. However, not all nationalities are eligible, and the permitted activities during this stay are limited to tourism, attending conferences, or visiting family.

If your country is not included in this program or if you plan to engage in work or study, you will require a visa in advance. Be sure to confirm your eligibility and permitted stay duration through official channels before planning your trip.

Where can I get South Korean visa application form?

To apply for a South Korean visa, you can download the official visa application form from the Korea Visa Portal at www.visa.go.kr. This portal also provides detailed instructions for various types of visas, including tourist, study, and work visas.

Alternatively, you can get guided assistance through professional visa consultants like LMI Consultancy in Indonesia, who can help ensure all requirements are met, especially for non-Indonesian passport holders applying from Indonesia.
