Paying your taxes in Indonesia usually involves a couple of steps. You’ll typically send your tax payments to the government through a designated bank, sometimes called a “bank persepsi.” Then, you’ll officially record everything with the tax office (DGT) by filing the necessary tax returns.
One important part of this process is monthly tax reporting. If you’re running a business in Indonesia, you’re required to file a monthly income tax report, even if your company hasn’t made any money yet. It’s a legal requirement, so it’s important to stay on top of it.
Monthly Tax Report
- Frequency: Every month
- Deadline: 20th of the following month for income tax; month-end for VAT
- Scope of Taxes: Focuses on withholding income tax (PPh) and VAT
- Forms Used: Varies by tax type (e.g., PPh 21, VAT)
- Penalties for Late Submission: IDR 500,000 for VAT; IDR 100,000 for income tax
- Purpose: Monthly reporting of withheld or collected taxes
Annual Tax Report
- Frequency: Once a year
- Deadline: March 31 for individuals; April 30 for businesses
- Scope of Taxes: Covers personal and corporate income, assets, debts, and taxes payable for the year
- Forms Used: SPT 1770 (individuals), SPT 1771 (businesses)
- Penalties for Late Submission: IDR 100,000 for individuals; IDR 1,000,000 for businesses
- Purpose: Annual summary of total income and tax obligations
What is the Function of Tax Return?
The tax return encompasses taxes imposed on revenue from sales, services, investments, and other sources. The tax return also details various monthly or yearly expenses. These costs include operating, interest, and tax expenses, among others. The record also displays profits, losses, tax rates, and the post-tax balance.

Who needs to file taxes monthly?
All operating companies must file monthly tax reports.
What's the due date for the monthly tax report?
The deadline for filing Periodic Income Tax Returns is the 20th of the following month, or the next working day if the 20th is a holiday. The deadline for the Periodic VAT SPT report is the last day of the next month.
What happens if you're late submitting your monthly tax report?
Legal entities require monthly tax reports from the company for administrative purposes. Failure to meet this obligation will incur a fine.
