Frequently Asked Questions

Can I travel to the Portuguese islands of Azores or Madeira on a Schengen Visa?

Yes, you can travel to the Portuguese islands of Azores and Madeira using your Schengen Visa to enter Portugal. Both archipelagos are part of Portuguese territory and included in the Schengen Area. As long as your visa is valid and you entered through the proper embassy procedures, your trip to Portugal can include visits to any region, whether the mainland or island, without additional permits.

Do I need Travel Medical Insurance for my Portugal visa application?

Yes, Travel Medical Insurance is mandatory when you apply for Portugal under a Schengen visa. It is one of the key documents required and must cover your entire stay in Portugal as well as other countries in the Schengen area. The insurance must have a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 and include emergency medical treatment and repatriation. Without valid insurance, your application may be denied.

Extending My Schengen Visa in Portugal: What Are The Options?

Extending a Schengen tourist visa while in Portugal is generally not permitted, unless in exceptional cases such as humanitarian reasons, force majeure, or serious personal circumstances. Since a short stay visa grants a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period across all Schengen states, extensions are highly restricted.

To explore your eligibility for extension, you must apply before your visa expires through the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF). However, it’s typically advised to return to your home country and begin a new Schengen visa processing through an online application for a future trip.

How long is the processing time to get a Portugal Schengen Visa?

The visa processing time for a Portugal Schengen Visa typically ranges from 15 to 30 working days, depending on your visa eligibility, the time of year, and how complete your documentation is. It’s recommended to apply at least 3 to 6 weeks before your intended departure.

If you’re applying from Indonesia, the Embassy of Portugal in Indonesia, located in Jakarta, handles the application. For smooth processing and up-to-date visa information, you can consult LMI Consultancy, a trusted visa service partner familiar with Portugal visa procedures.

Can I fill in an online application form to apply for a Portugal Schengen Visa?

Yes, you can complete the online application form for a Portugal Schengen Visa before submitting your documents to the embassy. However, it’s essential to meet the requirements based on your purpose of travel, proof of funds, accommodation, and valid insurance.

If you intend to enter Portugal as your main destination within the Schengen Area, you must apply through the Embassy of Portugal. To make the process easier and error-free, LMI Consultancy can assist you with accurate documentation and appointment booking.
