This Foreign Research Visa is for those who plan to enter and conduct research in Indonesia; it allows them to fully immerse themselves in the country’s rich culture while carrying out their studies. This visa, valid for up to 12 months, allows for extended stays.
This visa permits foreign nationals to conduct research in Indonesia. To obtain this visa, sponsorship from an eligible university or the appropriate ministry is necessary. It is important to remember that this is a non working visa.
What You Can Do with Research Visa Indonesia
- Conduct research in Indonesia as approved by the authorities.
- Collaborate with local institutions, universities, or research centers.
- Reside legally in Indonesia for the duration of your research project.
- Travel within Indonesia to carry out research-related activities.
- Extend your stay by applying for a KITAS renewal if the research project continues.
What You Cannot Do with Research Visa Indonesia
- Engage in activities outside the scope of approved research.
- Work in Indonesia for profit or seek employment unrelated to research.
- Start or manage a business in Indonesia.
- Sponsor dependents or family members under the Research KITAS.
- Apply for permanent residency directly using a Research KITAS.

Document Requirements for The Visa Application
- Passport with minimum 18 (eighteen) months validity
- Latest colour photograph
- Address in Indonesia
- Bank Statement with minimum balance USD 2,000 or equivalent for the last 3 months.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Travel Itinerary.
- Proof of guarantee from the Sponsorship, which is a research institution.
- Permit from National Research and Innovation Agency.
- Other documents if required.
