Work Visa KITAS in Indonesia

The Working Visa / Working KITAS is intended for foreigners that are employed to work in Indonesia for certain period of time. Along with the Indonesia’s working permit, this visa allows its holder to actively earn income, open bank accounts, pay taxes, get a mobile phone and more.

The length of a working visa can vary between 6 & 12 months depending on your job title; the validity being approved by Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower. In general, Directors, Commissioners & Senior Managers can obtain a 12 month extendable permit, whereas advisors can only get a 6 month, non-extendable visa.

Indonesia Visa on Arrival (VoA)

Perfect for short-term business travel and tourism visits, the Visa on Arrival allows foreign nationals from over 90 countries to enter Indonesia for up to 30 days, with a one-time extension. This visa is quite popular in Jakarta and Bali, as it becomes an ideal choice for attending meetings, networking events, and market exploration, offering a convenient entry point for initial business engagement without long processing times.

6 months to 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Single Entry Business Visa

Tailored for professionals entering Indonesia for specific business activities such as conferences, negotiations, or feasibility assessments. Valid for 60 days and extendable up to 180 days, this visa supports project-based work and consultancy. However, it does not permit direct employment with an Indonesian entity.

Investor KITAS

Designed for foreign investors holding shares in a local PMA (foreign-owned limited liability company), the Investor KITAS provides both residency and work privileges within Indonesia, without the need for an IMTA (work permit). With capital requirements that align with Indonesia’s sustainable investment goals, this visa streamlines business setup and also enables sponsorship of dependent or spouse visas.

Work Permit in Indonesia: The Application Process to Legally Work for a Company in Indonesia

Foreign national workers intending to earn income and stay in Indonesia must obtain a valid work permit, commonly referred to as IMTA, which is issued through the Ministry of Manpower. This permit allows you to legally work for an Indonesian-registered company and is a critical requirement in securing a stay permit (KITAS).

FAQ

What is the DPKK Fund and how much is it?

The DPKK Fund, a mandatory payment to Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower, finances domestic workforce training. The monthly cost is $100 with the total amount is dependent on the length of your KITAS – 12 months for example is $1200 USD.

Unfortunately, you cannot continue your current KITAS. You will need to obtain an EPO (Exit Permit Only) which will terminate your current working visa and you will then need to start your new visa with your new company.

You may only work in the location or job specification stated on your KITAS.
