The Spouse Sponsored KITAS is the Visa you are looking for if you are a foreigner married to an Indonesian Citizen. There are two available options: The Spouse Sponsored KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas) which carries a one-year validity & 2 years validity.
Types of Spouse Visas to Enter Indonesia
Spouse KITAS
The Spouse KITAS is a temporary stay permit granted to foreign nationals married to an Indonesian citizen. This visa is available regardless of the number of years of marriage, as long as the marriage is legally registered in Indonesia. It allows the holder to reside in the country for up to one year, with annual extensions possible.
Spouse KITAP
For those looking to live in Indonesia long-term with their spouse in Indonesia, the Spouse KITAP offers a permanent stay solution. Foreigners can obtain a spouse visa KITAP after at least two years of marriage and holding a KITAS, provided the marriage is legally recognised. This visa streamlines residency for foreigners committed to family life in Indonesia.
What You Can Do with a Spouse KITAS
- Reside legally in Indonesia as the spouse of an Indonesian citizen
- Open a bank account in Indonesia
- Apply for a local driver’s license (SIM)
- Obtain a local tax ID (NPWP)
- Travel freely within Indonesia without needing additional permits
- Transition to a KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit) after 2 years
What You Cannot Do with a Spouse KITAS
- Work in Indonesia without obtaining a separate work permit (IMTA/Notifikasi)
- Start or manage a business unless properly licensed
- Hold any position of employment tied to your spouse KITAS
- Engage in paid employment without authorization
- Work freelance or as an independent contractor without proper permits
Spouse Visa Validity Period
1 – 2 years with the possibility of extension.
Document Requirements
- Scan Copy passport 18 months validity
- Coloured photograph
- Personal bank statement with minimum USD 2000 or equivalent for the last 3 months
- Curriculum Vitae
- Travel Itinerary
- Other documents if required
Special Requirements:
- Marriage certificate translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator
- Valid visa/limited stay permit (ITAS)/permanent stay permit (ITAP) of husband or wife
Other Type of KITAS in Indonesia
Indonesia offers a range of Limited Stay Permits (KITAS) that support various long-term purposes including business, family reunification, employment, and retirement—each tailored to specific needs for staying legally in Indonesia. These KITAS options provide flexibility for foreign nationals and expatriates living in key hubs like Jakarta and Bali.
Dependent KITAS
Ideal for family members of a KITAS holder, this visa allows Indonesian spouses or kids to legally reside in the country. Common among expat families in Jakarta and Bali, the Dependent KITAS supports family unification under one primary permit holder.
Investor KITAS
The Investor KITAS grants foreign investors a long-term stay and entry permit to manage their business in Indonesia. This visa includes a Multiple Exit Re-Entry Permit (MERP), streamlining the ability to enter and exit the country while maintaining residency status.
Working KITAS
Targeted at foreign nationals legally employed by companies in Indonesia, the Working KITAS requires a valid work permit (IMTA). This Limited Stay Permit ensures you are allowed to work under a formal Working Visa, fulfilling immigration and labour compliance.
Retirement KITAS
Designed for retirees aged 55 and above, this Retirement Visa caters to expatriates looking to stay in Indonesia to spen their retirement years. It offers a legal pathway for long-term living without employment obligations.

FAQ
Can I bring a child under my Spouse KITAS?
No, you cannot bring more than one subject under the same visa. Should you bring along children or parents, they can be registered under Dependant KITAS / Dependant KITAP.
Can I work using Spouse KITAS?
Yes, however you need to obtain an additional Work Permit in order to work in Indonesia.
What happens if my marriage ends in divorce?
If your marriage lasts less than 10 years, you will need to submit a new sponsor to the Immigration Office within 60 days to maintain your Spouse Visa. If your marriage last longer than 10 years and you possess a KITAP, a divorce will no longer have any influence on your permanent residency.
