Indonesia Spouse Visa KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit)

The Spouse KITAP is granted to foreign nationals marrying a spouse holding Permanent Residency. A primary advantage of the KITAP is the elimination of the annual requirement to extend one’s stay permit and visit the immigration department. Furthermore, you will be eligible to submit an application for:
- Indonesian ID with a validity of five years
- Local driver’s license (SIM) with a validity of five years
- Bank account
- Credit card
- Loan
- Local prices to tourist attractions
- MERP with a validity of two years, allowing you to enter and exit the country as you like
- If you are married to an Indonesian citizen, then you will be eligible for a joint ownership over a property
Duration of stay with a Spouse KITAP is five to ten years, determined by the dependent spouse’s KITAP.
What You Can Do with a Spouse KITAP
- Enter and exit Indonesia territory as long as the Multiple Exit/Re-Entry Permit (MERP) is valid.
- Eligibility to apply for: Indonesia ID (KTP) with a validity of five years, Local driver’s license (SIM) with a validity of five years, Bank account, Credit card, Loan, Local prices to tourist attractions, MERP with a validity of two years (allowing multiple entries/exits)
- Engage in tourism related activities and visit friends or family.
- Joint ownership of property (if married to an Indonesia citizen).
What You Cannot Do with a Spouse KITAP
- ExtendableReceive compensation, wages, or similar benefits from individuals or corporations in Indonesia, unless you have gone through the mechanism of dual activity of Stay Permit for employment (meaning you have obtained a Work Permit).
- Conduct sales of goods or services.

The Spouse KITAS allows the foreign spouse of an Indonesian citizen to legally reside in Indonesia. Holders can live, study, and, with the necessary permits, work in Indonesia. The KITAS is renewable annually and offers a clear pathway toward permanent residency through the KITAP.
Dependent KITAS for Foreigners with Family in Indonesia
This visa is intended for spouses and children of foreign nationals who hold a valid KITAS or KITAP. The Dependent KITAS ensures that families can stay together during long-term assignments in Indonesia, supporting a stable and secure living environment.
Work Visa KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit for Work)
The Work Visa KITAP grants permanent residency status for foreign professionals who have held a Work KITAS for an extended period, usually after four consecutive years. It provides long-term employment and residency rights, eliminating the need for annual renewals and offering a streamlined process for career continuity in Indonesia.
Investor Visa KITAS
The Investor KITAS is designed for foreign investors who own shares in an Indonesian company (PT PMA). It grants stay and work rights without requiring a separate work permit (IMTA), simplifying the relocation and operational setup process. Minimum capital investment thresholds apply, supporting Indonesia’s focus on sustainable foreign investment. Investor KITAS holders can also sponsor their spouse and dependents for corresponding long-term stay permits.

- Colour Copy MERP
- Colour copy STM
- Colour copy SKTT
- Recent colour photograph
- Family Registered Card of Indonesian spouse
- Letter of Domicile
- Others document if required.
Special Requirements:
- Marriage certificate translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator*;
- Valid visa/limited stay permit (ITAS)/permanent stay permit (ITAP) of husband or wife.

Can I bring a child under my Spouse KITAP?
No, you cannot bring more than one subject under the same visa. Should you bring along children or parents, they can be registered under Dependant KITAS / Dependant KITAP.
Can I work using Spouse KITAP?
Yes, however you need to obtain an additional Work Permit in order to work in Indonesia.
Do I need an ERP (Exit Re-entry Permit) if I already have Spouse KITAP?
All KITAS/KITAP holders are required to obtain a Multiple Exit Re-Permit (MERP) from the local immigration authority. This document grants permission for travel to and from Indonesia. This permit, in the form of an immigration stamp affixed to your passport, necessitates your physical presence in Indonesia for processing. This permit can be given when the KITAS/KITAP is still valid for a minimum of 6 months.
