Bali Entry Requirements and General Visa Rules (2025)
Entry requirements to go to Bali vary based on purpose and visa category. Common requirements include:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months
- Confirmed accommodation address
- Proof of sufficient funds (when required)
- Return/onward flight (for short-term visas)
- Visa or eVisa approval (if applicable)
- Tourism levy payment
- Arrival card submission (digital roll-out ongoing)
Visa Application Process
Bali offers several visa options, and the application steps vary depending on the type of visa and your travel purpose. Most visas must now be applied for offshore through the official evisa website for indonesia where you can apply online. Once you are in Bali, onshore processing is only permitted for visa extensions, not for initial visa issuance.
For short stays, eligible travellers may enter using a Visa on Arrival (VoA) and extend it once at a local immigration office. However, for longer stays or work-related purposes, applying offshore remains the most efficient and compliant path.

Visas for Tourism: General Entry Requirements & Travel Documents
Single-Entry Visa 60 Days
Bali offers a range of entry permit depending on your travel purpose, and most applications must now be submitted offshore, meaning you must apply before entering, usually through the official online system. The Single Entry Visitor Visa is ideal for those intending to stay longer than the Visa on Arrival (VoA) permits, whether for tourism, social visits, or eligible business activities.
To apply, you will need a valid passport with at least 6 month validity, a recent passport photo, proof of accommodation, and a sponsor letter. Once approved, you may enter Indonesia and stay for 60 days, with the option to extend twice, each extension granting an additional 60 days, allowing a maximum stay of up to 180 days without needing to leave the country.
Onshore processing is only available for visa extensions, not new visa issuance, and VoA holders must attend the local immigration office for extension.
Visa on Arrival (VoA) & eVOA (Electronic VoA)
Most nationalities may enter Bali and apply for a Visa on Arrival at the airport or apply an e-VOA online before departure via the official e-visa website.
With this visa, you can:
- Apply upon arrival during your arrival in Bali
- Valid 30 days (Validity from the date of arrival)
- Extendable once for another 30 days
- For tourism and limited business activities
- Payable in IDR card payment or e-payment
The e-VOA option allows travellers to apply online smoothly via international airports and seaports including Ngurah Rai Bali International Airport.
ITAS (KITAS) in Indonesia
Foreigners seeking to live long-term stay without leaving Indonesia may apply for ITAS / KITAS suitable for the travel purposes:
- Working KITAS
- Investor KITAS
- Spouse/Family KITAS
- Dependant KITAS
- Retirement KITAS
- Second Home Visa
A KITAS allows residence from 6–12 months, renewable in-country. There is also a KITAP or Permanent Stay Permit, available after holding KITAS, typically for 5 years.
Business Visa vs Working Visa
For business trips, like seminars and meetings, you can apply for a business visa. This visa differs from a work visa, which demands local sponsorship for employment in Indonesia.
There are two types that are currently available:
