In Indonesia, both individuals and businesses must report their taxes if they meet specific criteria.
- Individuals: Generally, individuals with an annual income exceeding IDR 54 million are required to file a tax return. This includes both Indonesian citizens and foreign nationals residing in Indonesia for more than 183 days within a year.
- Businesses: Any business entity with an annual turnover exceeding IDR 4.8 billion, as well as certain types of businesses such as restaurants and hotels, must register with the tax authority and obtain a Tax Identification Number (NPWP).
The deadlines for filing tax reports vary based on taxpayer type:
- Individual taxpayers must submit their annual tax reports by March 31 of the following year.
- Corporate taxpayers generally need to file their corporate tax returns by the last day of the fourth month following the end of their fiscal year. For example, if a company’s fiscal year ends on December 31, the report is due by April 30 of the following year.
Yes, taxpayers who overpay their taxes during the year may be eligible for a tax refund from the Indonesian Tax Authority. However, specific conditions must be met to qualify for this refund.
Yes, all residents who qualify as taxpayers in Indonesia are required to report their global income, which includes earnings from foreign sources. This means that even if you receive payments in an account outside Indonesia, you must declare this income on your tax return
